Guitar and Banjo Instruction
Rick Taube/Guitar/Banjo
RICK TAUBE is an accomplished guitarist of over 40 years.
His range of styles and mastery of both electric and acoustic (six and twelve string)is amazing .
 Rick says, “ I try to squeeze everything sonically out of the guitar! ”He has also enjoyed the
 5 string banjo for decades. Mr. Taube has personally instructed thousands of individual and  classroom students of all ages, skill levels, and musical tastes. He has taught and co-developed the Schmitt Music Group Guitar Program, one of the largest and most
 unique consumer retail education  programs anywhere. As a respected teacher since 1971, Rick has also composed,
performed, recorded, and studied music for years and is knowledgeable in almost every aspect of the guitar
and banjo. Rick Taube’s academic background includes undergraduate work at MacPhail Center
for the Arts,  Associate of Arts Degree –Metropolitan Community College, University of Minnesota,
and Metropolitan State University
where he received his BA degree. In the spring of 1996, Rick opened the 
NORTHERN PINE SCHOOL OF GUITAR & BANJO.
  He has also authored THE GUITAR STAFFGRAPH, a 
unique guitar reference tool which received notice in Guitar Player Magazine. 
As a teacher, Rick Taube has modernized and refined the very art of giving a music lesson with innovative techniques
and sound enhancing devices. He accepts beginning through advanced level students and specializes in Fingerstyle, 
 Rock (heavy metal-alternative-modern), Acoustic & Electric Blues, Country, Traditional/Bluegrass Guitar & Banjo,
 Popular Music, and theory. “The only thing more enjoyable than listening to music is actually playing it.” 
  

 

Guitar/Violin/Suzuki Program
Christopher Becknell/Guitar/Violin
CHRISTOPHER BECKNELL brings to Northern Pine Studios a strong emphasis
 in improvisation and Suzuki education. Christopher teaches Classical,
Blues and Rock Guitar as well as Classical Violin. He is a recent Bethel University
graduate with
Bachelor of Music degrees in Guitar Performance and Music History. 
Mr. Becknell has certification from the Suzuki Association of America. The premise
of Suzuki is: all individuals possess talent which education can develop.
Christopher’s instruction starts with students age 5. Christopher literally grew up
with the Suzuki approach to learning. Honing his skills from the top names in
Suzuki Education: Dr. John Kendall, Patricia D’Ercole, and David Madsen, he
understands the learning process 
up-close, personal, and effectively.
He also provides freelance musical entertainment to a variety of venues and special 
occasions. Christopher Becknell’s communication skills are ideal for tutoring and he
is truly a wonderful
musician.

- For instruction on Piano/Keyboard, Northern Pine is fortunate to acquire CINDY FISCHER from 
   Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Cindy Fischer earned both her Master’s Degree in Music/Music Composition and
   BA Degree from the University of Wisconsin. She has an outstanding professional background teaching, performing, 
   and working in music retail dating back to 1993.  “My teaching approach is supportive and positive. It is my
   mission to instill a love and appreciation of music in students . . . “  Cindy specializes in Classical, Pop, and Rock
   styles for all ages. She is our certified Kindermusik instructor and also provides mandolin instruction.

 Look no further than DAVID SIEVEKING for electric Bass Guitar instruction.  David says,
“I can teach students from beginner to advanced, and my ultimate goal is to teach students how fun the bass guitar
can be.”  David Sieveking is knowledgeable of multiple music styles and can customize his lessons to keep his
students motivated.  His educational background includes: AA Degree – Western Iowa Tech Community College
and Music Tech College (now McNally Smith College of Music) – Associates of Applied Science in Music: Bass Guitar.
David has shared the stage with national touring acts like Sum 41 and Bowling for Soup. This excellent player
performs regionally as well as teaching at Northern Pine Studios.

GARY HABERMAN is proud to bring his teaching practice to Northern Pine Studios and offers drum lessons designed to fit the individual while emphasizing fundamentals with a holistic blend of formal training and real world experience. Gary brings with him 17 years of teaching experience. He has previously taught at McNally Smith College of Music, and Schmitt Music.  Gary incorporates recording and play along technology as well as his extensive experience as a performing musician and formal education to his lesson plans. “I prefer to help students find success with what they want from the educational experience while supporting their musical exploration with a strong foundation in music fundamentals.” says Gary, when asked about his teaching philosophy.

Gary has a degree in advanced performance with an emphasis in recording from McNally Smith College of Music and has studied privately with Gordy Knudtson and Marv Dahlgren. Haberman is still very active in the professional music community performing an average of 170 shows a year on festival stages, in clubs, praise and worship bands, and recording studios throughout the U.S.
