Buy With Confidence and SAVE !!
BE A WISE GUITAR AND BANJO SHOPPER

Avoid mega guitar stores, department stores, and....yes, long distance online purchases and auctions. Always try to sample the instrument in person, if-at-all-possible.

Physically SEE, FEEL, and HEAR your musical choice BEFORE purchase.
A smaller, more localized dealer is better able to assist you with the ideal instrument
for your needs - one that you can actually play and succeed on! What good is it saving a few bucks on a cheap sale if playing this inferior instrument inhibits your progress?
Reject dealers whose bottom line is marketing guitars & banjos on a big box scale.
Remember....a musical instrument is a personal choice, more like buying eyeglasses and shoes than buying a toaster or appliance. Ask Rick @ Northern Pine for advice- you can trust us!
What to look for before the purchase(very general):

1. The strings should be easy to press down to the fret wires on the fingerboard. Count
to the 12th fret. You should be able to slip no more than two pennies ( preferably 1 1/2 pennies)
between under the first string and the 12th fret. Any more space than this makes playing
that instrument very uncomfortable and thus unenjoyable. Potentially bad choice !
2. Ask the person selling the guitar or banjo if they gaurantee that the instrument plays
in-tune at every fret and that intonation work -on electric guitars and banjos-has been performed. Pass on this purchase if they act like they do not understand you - they have no business
selling you a new guitar or banjo regardless of the name on the headstock. Big well known
brand name or not, the instrument does you no good if it plays hard or plays out of tune....right?Rarely, if ever, does an online dealer properly set-up an instrument before shipping it
off to a customer. They know you will not go to the effort to check it out or bother to return it back
anyway. Sadly, often the bottom line trumps the kind of guitar or banjo you deserve.
By the way , a well prepared instrument need not cost more either.
DO NOT ALWAYS SEEK THE CHEAPEST PRICE
YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR IN THAT CASE
There is a lot of good value on small name brands that are carefully set-up.

3. If the store/sales help cannot/will not tune it for you, then buy from a
real
music store that will. Please financially support the dealers who know their product well!
4. Buying right just requires a little knowledge, caution, and verification: it is actually fun!
